Thirty-two years old. As I sat in my second PhD course, the professor gave an assignment concerning the Song of Solomon.
Although I had earned a bachelor’s degree and three master’s degrees and had been a professor of Hebrew for nearly ten years, I was still confused when it came to the Song’s message. And when students asked about its message, I would respond, “That’s one of those books I still need to study.”
But the Song of Solomon was difficult, and I had not taken the time to understand it. The professor standing before me, however, had written his dissertation on that book of the Bible. So this was my chance. I was finally going to get answers to this puzzling song.
