Does God Speak through Dreams and Visions Today?

By Flip Michaels

My first book, Five Half-Truths: Addressing the Most Common Misconceptions of Christianity, has moved from a personal desire to a published reality in the UK and US. Its premise centers around a quote from J. I. Packer: “A half-truth masquerading as a whole truth becomes a complete untruth.”

Read those words again carefully, allowing time for them to marinate. Packer’s point is this: a half-truth is categorically an untruth, where one’s statement stands in direct opposition to the whole truth. There is something erroneous implied in this form of fibbing—even toxic! It is like consuming half a poison pill a day. Sure, it’s a small dose and probably won’t kill you. At least not right away.

Imagine the harm a half-truth does within the very nerve center of the gospel. Several of Christianity’s most essential doctrines appear to be torqued and twisted into brand new truth claims under the banner of evangelicalism. No longer are they easily discerned or unequivocally determined to be false by those who possess the Good Book. Instead, these half-truths are infiltrating the believing church.
