The Bible tells us to sing with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and this beautiful hymnal would add to the evidence that a revived interest over the psalms part of the admonition is increasing. This hymnal includes at least one hymn for each of the 150 psalms in the Old Testament book (23 for Psalm 119!), and many of the hymns are set to familiar tunes. Each song has a Scripture passage underneath the title, and many of these fitting passages are from other books of the Bible than the psalms themselves.
The hymnal is well bound, and the paper used lends to readability. It is available in a large print, spiral-bound edition as well. At the back of the hymnal are indexes of song titles, tunes, meters, Biblical topics, and Scripture references (both for the psalms and the other Scripture passages throughout the whole Bible). At the beginning of the hymnal are two interesting write-ups: “Understanding the Psalms in Christian Worship” and “The Experience of Singing the Psalms” (history summary).
