When danger threatens, most people run the other way, but not first responders. They regularly run into harm’s way to rescue and protect those in the communities they serve.
But who rescues and protects first responders? Who comforts them? Often it’s chaplains. And when chaplains aren’t available, reading the Word of God can provide strength and comfort.
Thanks to the efforts of students attending Regular Baptist Press Vacation Bible School programs, copies of God’s Word can be within easy reach when first responders need them.
Through a project called Bibles Born for Battlefields, students raised funds to provide durable Bibles for people on the front lines—police officers, emergency medical responders, military personnel, and others.
Elijah Schewe, a Regular Baptist community service chaplain, oversees the project. For men and women in the field and for those who receive tragic news, “God’s Word is a light in moments of darkness,” Elijah says.
