Eschatology is often considered a minor doctrine that doesn’t necessarily affect our lives today. The various views on the meaning and sequence of end-time events cause some to avoid teaching any specifics about eschatology. They don’t want to cause controversy or confusion. So they resort to generalizations such as “Jesus will be victorious in the end” and “believers will live forever with Jesus in Heaven.” But there is far more to the end times than Jesus’ victory over sin and a home in Heaven—so much so that eschatology should form a vital part of a church’s scope and sequence. This article puts forth four reasons a church should ensure its curriculum includes lessons on end-time events.
