Q. In Luke 9:1–6, Jesus told His followers not to take various necessities with them when they went out to minister. Why did He instruct differently in Luke 22:35–38?

A. The difference is time and circumstances. When the disciples went out during Jesus’ earthly ministry, they were to depend on the Lord and on hospitality from others (Mark 6:6–13). But after Jesus left them, they would be exposed to situations that would require providing for themselves essentials such as money, food, and so forth.
