Knute Larson, my friend and a past speaker at a Regular Baptist Ministries annual conference, sends a monthly email of healthy reminders and observations about pastoral ministry, churches, and life in general.
In the course of my two years as interim national representative, I have preached and represented RBM in nearly 140 churches, state and regional associations, military bases, colleges, and pastors’ meetings.
As an observer in churches of all shapes and sizes, traveling week to week, here are some observations I’ve made along the way. Some are arcane—simple oddities I’ve wondered about when my mind wanders. Others are observations addressing the practices and health of churches.
Now, opinions are much like navels: we all have one and it is best kept under cover, but here goes. Please remember that these are general observations, not ironclad judgments. I might be accused of being curmudgeonly, but if so, I hope to be a sanctified curmudgeon.
