Why Churches Should Plant Churches

By Ken Davis

Every local church should be involved in church multiplication in some manner, though not necessarily in the same way. Every Bible-believing congregation, regardless of its size, age, or budget, needs to prayerfully find its role in planting new churches. Whether that means intentionally reproducing themselves (“planned parenthood”), partnering with other congregations, or supporting church planters, all churches can participate in the Great Commission.

Most church leaders think only about growing healthy churches or growing large churches. It is my conviction that we need to be committed to growing multiplying churches. We need a paradigm shift in our thinking to move us from growth by addition to growth by multiplication. Research shows that the best way to reach the harvest fields around us isn’t through megachurches or multisite churches or even planting more churches, but through local churches committing to reproduce corporately. Churches parenting daughter churches is normally more fruitful and effective than any other method of multiplication.
