SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Responding to the recent tragedy in Newtown, Conn., Gospel Literature Services is providing area churches a booklet for free distribution, Scriptures for Coping with Grief and Loss.
“We lift our prayers on behalf of the families who have lost children and loved ones in Newtown,” says Chris Hindal, director of Gospel Literature Services.
The booklet, which will be offered free to Connecticut area churches, was written after author Wally Stephenson went through a period of deep loss.
“In the days, months, and years after the death of my wife and only daughter in 1993, I read and reread passage after passage of Scripture. There I found help, comfort, and strength to cope with the tremendous grief and sorrow I was experiencing,” Stephenson says. “God’s Word was my constant consolation and companion while coping with my horrific loss.”
Gifts of any size will make a difference in this project. Immediacy is important. “Let’s take the opportunity to not only empathize, but to point these families to Jesus, Who can be their friend and Savior,” Chris Hindal says.
